Imagine waking to the sound of church bells and the smell of espresso drifting up from a village stacked against the cliffs. This is the Amalfi Coast in late September — the summer crowds thinning, the sea still warm enough to swim, the light turning honey-gold by five o'clock. You'll begin in Positano, all pastel houses tumbling toward the water, move up to Ravello where the gardens hang in the sky, and finish on Capri, arriving the way it should be — by boat, past the Faraglioni rocks. Eight days built for two, with time to do nothing at all.

Down the winding road to the sea
Land in Naples and transfer by private car along the coast road to Positano, the cliffs opening up around every bend. Settle into your hotel and take your first aperitivo watching the sun drop behind the headland.
Pastel houses and warm stone steps
Wander the stepped lanes down to Spiaggia Grande, browse the linen boutiques, and lunch on grilled fish by the water. The afternoon is yours for the beach or the terrace.
Blue water and hidden coves
A private gozzo takes you west past Nerano and the emerald coves, dropping anchor for a swim and a seafood lunch at a waterside trattoria. Return to Positano golden and salt-kissed.
Where the gardens touch the sky
Transfer up the mountain to Ravello, quieter and greener, perched high above the coastline. Walk the belvedere at Villa Rufolo as the afternoon light spills over the terraced gardens.
Statues, sea and endless horizon
Spend the morning at Villa Cimbrone, where the marble busts line up against nothing but sea and sky. An unhurried afternoon, perhaps a private cooking lesson with a local nonna.
Cathedral steps and lemon groves
Descend to Amalfi town for its striped cathedral and the tiny neighbouring village of Atrani. Taste limoncello where the lemons are actually grown, terraced into the hillside.
Arriving the only proper way — by sea
A boat carries you across the bay to Capri, gliding past the towering Faraglioni rocks. Check into your island hotel and take the funicular up to the Piazzetta for evening people-watching.
Anacapri heights and the Blue Grotto
Chair-lift up Monte Solaro for the whole island at your feet, then a boat to the Blue Grotto if the sea is calm. A final dinner overlooking the lights of the marina.
One last espresso on the water
A slow morning before the hydrofoil back to Naples and your onward flight home, the coast disappearing behind you.
